Serving Skiatook

Skiatook sits roughly twenty miles north and west of Tulsa at the junction of State Highways 20 and 11, straddling the Tulsa and Osage county line. That position has earned it the nickname Gateway to the Osage. The drive in to Midtown is generally around thirty minutes.

The town was founded by William C. Rogers, who served as chief of the Cherokee Nation from 1903 to 1907, and who established a trading post on the south bank of Bird Creek. The post office opened under the name Ski-a-took in 1872, a Cherokee word generally read as referring to something of large size, and the spelling changed to its present form in 1892. Skiatook became a city in May 1905, the same year the Midland Valley Railroad came through.

Skiatook Lake, impounded in 1984, is the other defining feature. It covers about 10,500 acres with roughly 160 miles of shoreline, and the development around it has driven a good deal of the town growth. The population reached 8,453 at the 2020 census.

What we see most from Skiatook

Lake country brings its own dentistry. We see more sports and watersport mouthguard requests from this direction, and more repairs after knocks to front teeth. Custom mouthguards are made here, and a broken tooth is worked into the schedule ahead of routine appointments.

None of that means we only do one thing for one town. It is simply the pattern, and it is worth saying out loud because it tells you what your neighbours found useful about driving here.

Everything in one office

Diamond Dental is family owned and locally run, not part of a chain. Cleanings and deep cleanings, crowns, fillings, veneers, clear aligners, TMJ treatment, injectables, implants, extractions, and wisdom teeth all happen in this office. For a Skiatook family that is the difference between solving a problem on the trip you already made and starting a second one on the other side of Tulsa.

Dr. Mariam Hanna earned her DDS at Howard University College of Dentistry and completed a one year general practice residency in sedation and oral surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center. That training is the reason surgical and sedation cases stay here rather than being referred on, including patients on several medications or with conditions that need watching during a procedure.

She is also a member of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics, which is the training behind the TMJ treatment and injectables offered here.

If the dentist is not somewhere you enjoy going

Two things keep people away, and they are cost and a bad experience somewhere else. We quote treatment before starting it, and nobody here will comment on how long it has been since your last visit.

Nitrous gas is available the same day for most appointments and oral sedation can be arranged in advance. There is also a therapy dog, blankets, and iPads, and you can ask for any of it at check in without giving a reason. The comfort menu page sets out the lot.

New patients from Skiatook

The new patient visit is $125 for an adult and $90 for a child, covering the exam, digital X-rays, and a cleaning. Gum measurements are taken at that appointment, because that is what tells us whether a standard cleaning is right for you or whether gum disease needs treating first.

We accept most PPO plans, including Cigna, Aetna, Guardian, MetLife, and Delta, and our team handles the back and forth with the insurance company. If you do not have dental insurance, ask about Smile Club, our in house monthly membership. The current offers page lists what is included.

Families from Skiatook regularly book several appointments back to back so one drive covers everybody. Ask for that when you call and we will arrange it.

Bring your insurance card, a list of any medications you take including over the counter ones, and the name of your previous dentist if you have records worth transferring. If you are in pain or something has broken, say so when you book rather than waiting until you arrive, because that changes how much time we set aside for you.

Questions from Skiatook patients

What people making this drive ask us most.

How long does it take to get to your office from Skiatook

Take Highway 11 south east toward Tulsa, join Highway 75 south, then east on the Broken Arrow Expressway to Harvard and south. Allow around half an hour.

Do you make custom mouthguards

Yes, for sport and for grinding. A custom guard is made from moulds of your own teeth, so it fits properly and stays put, which a boil and bite guard from a shop does not.
